Announcing the Worldwide Release of my Books + Upcoming Appearances

Remember in my last update when I talked about

Exciting Things brewing in the background, one of which involved me sitting down for an 11 pm meeting with [redacted]

That was a meeting with Tuttle Publishing and Nida Ramirez, and I'm so happy to be able to finally announce the Exciting Things that we've been working on:

Worldwide Release of After Lambana and Wounded Little Gods

My books After Lambana – which I co-created with artist Mervin Malonzo – Wounded Little Gods and Dwellers will be published by Tuttle Publishing next year! Readers in the Philippines have enjoyed these stories and I can’t wait to share them with a wider audience.

Tuttle Publishing is thrilled about the upcoming worldwide release of Wounded Little Gods and After Lambana. Since our founding in 1948, our mission has been to publish best-in-class books which bring Asian arts, languages, and cultures to Western readers. The acquisition of these fantastic titles from the Philippines is the next step in expanding our diverse list and bringing people around the world together one page at a time. We look forward to building on this project by continuing to make popular Filipino books accessible to readers everywhere.

Dwellers is slated for release in the fall of 2022! More news about this soon.

Regina was born and raised in the small town of Heridos, where gods and spirits walked the earth.

Until they didn’t. Ten years ago, the town’s harvest failed utterly, and the people-—believing the gods had abandoned them—left their farms and moved on.

Now, on a Friday before a long weekend, Regina ends her workday at an office in Makati, and walks home with a new colleague, Diana. Following a strange and disturbing conversation between them, Diana does not show up at work on Monday, nor Tuesday, nor Wednesday.

On Thursday, Regina finds a folded piece of paper In her bag. In Diana’s handwriting are two names and a strange map that will send Regina back to her hometown. Here, in her quest to find Diana, she encounters rumors of genetic experiments, stumbles upon a strange facility that no one seems to know about, finds herself in places that don’t exist, and discovers that people are not who they seem to be. And the biggest question in the bizarre chain of events is not what, or how, but why?

Wounded Little Gods is a tale that brings mythology to a sci-fi thriller that’s filled with a sense of place—a place where gods are in many ways human and point to the ways in which humans can be inhumane. As Regina struggles to unwind the knots surrounding the mystery of this facility and the people connected to it. She discovers that she is more intertwined in the strange events in her hometown than she ever knew.

Immerse yourself in a fantasy world of Filipino myth, magic, and supernatural suspense!

Lambana—the realm of supernatural fairies known as Diwata—has fallen, and the Magic Prohibition Act has been enacted. To add to his troubles, there’s something wrong with Conrad’s heart and only magic can prolong his life. He teams up with Ignacio, a well-connected friend who promises to hook him up with the Diwata and their magical treatments—a quest that’s not only risky but highly illegal!

On the shadowy, noir-tinged streets of Manila, multiple realities co-exist and intertwine as the two friends seek a cure for the magical malady. Slinky sirens and roaming wraith-like spirits populate a parallel world ruled by corruption and greed, which Conrad must enter to find the cure he seeks. He has little idea of the creatures he will encounter and the truths to be revealed along the way. Will Lambana spill its secrets and provide the healing balm Conrad needs? Or will he perish in the process?

Fans of Neil Gaiman, Emil Ferris and Charles Burns will love this new graphic novel!
